Why hello there
Meet the friendly ZOOfriends Staff
Tim assumed the role of Executive Director of the Oklahoma Zoological Society in August 2016. Working with the OZS board of directors and staff, Tim leads the nonprofit organization that has responsibility for the membership and fundraising focus that benefits the Oklahoma City Zoo.
Tim grew up in the southwest corner of the state of Oklahoma near Altus and graduated from Navajo High School. He earned a degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma and soon thereafter began his professional career with the OU Alumni Association. He was fortunate to progress to other positions within University Development and enjoyed a long career in higher education. Tim moved to Washington, D.C. in 1995 and worked for a congressional fundraising firm prior to returning to the University of Oklahoma to further his fundraising career and start a family while living in Norman, OK.
As someone who feels community involvement is important, Tim has achieved a significant record of community service, including service as chair of Leadership Programs and chair of Tomorrow’s Leaders for the Norman Chamber of Commerce, program chair for the Norman Sooner Rotary Club, and two term president for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Cleveland County.
He has also volunteered his time for organizations including United Way, the U.S. Olympic Festival, the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Society, and the Pe-et Senior Honor Society. He served for several years as the chapter advisor and alumni association president of his fraternity at OU. And, he coached his daughter and sons in basketball and soccer during their elementary school days. Most recently, Tim has enjoyed serving in leadership positions for the athletic booster clubs associated with his children’s activities. He is currently serving as president of the Norman North Boys Basketball Booster Club.
Tim was honored to be selected as a member of Leadership Oklahoma’s Class XII and served the state’s premier leadership program as vice president for Youth Programs and as a member of the board of directors. He was one of three LOK alumni who established the Youth Leadership Oklahoma Program along with LOK’s executive director. Tim’s hobbies and interests include watching and attending OU football and basketball games and playing tennis and ping pong with family and friends.
Professional affiliations include the Association of Zoos & Aquariums and the International Leadership Association. Tim was formerly involved as an active participant in the Big 12 Development Conference, the National Committee on Planned Giving, and the Big 12 Planned Giving Council.
Tim and his wife Janis are long-time Norman residents and the proud parents of three children. Meredith is a sophomore at OU in the Gaylord College of Journalism while Ryan and Reid both attend Norman North High School.
Please contact Tim if you have ideas, suggestions, or concerns with regard to the Oklahoma Zoological Society and/or your ZOOfriends membership. Support from our members and donors is sincerely appreciated by OZS and the Oklahoma City Zoo.
